ASWANG Highlight - LADY IN WHITE / KRISTINE SINAJON
All cultures throughout the world have a story about ghosts. In the Philippines there is the famed “White Lady of Balete Drive”, a tormented soul wandering the streets of Quezon City. In Aswang the Concert, the Lady in White’s story is explored. What has caused her deep sorrow and rage?
Lady in White is masterfully performed by mezzo-soprano Kristine Sinajon. Hear a sneak peek from the soundtrack at:
Sa batis ng galak
Ng dusang matumal
Sa kislap ng punyal.
Sa karanasang lumipad
Mamasid ang kapaligiran
Ngunit ang mahabang galamay
Dinakip ang malayang ganyak.
Ang tubig sa batis
Parang luhang tumutulo
Sa sirasirang baníg
Tagláy sa loob ay paghigantihán
Ang sandaang katao, humigít kulang
Yaring humahanap ng tunguhin.
Tagláy sa ‘king loob ay paghigantihán
Sa kinalaunan …
"In the stream of bliss
Within silken threads of hope
There is a shadow
A ghost peeks through
To quickly end slow suffering
With the flash of a dagger
We desire to soar
To behold the world
Yet long tentacles of sorrow
Imprison unbridled ecstasy
The waters in this spring
Are tears flowing
Onto a ruined mat
Deep within me is vengeance
Against one hundred people, more or less
I will find a path
Deep within my soul I will exact my vengeance
